NGEC Chairperson Hon. Rehema Dida Jaldesa reminded parents in Isiolo that every registered candidate must sit the national examinations, including girls who are pregnant or already mothers.

She spoke as Chief Guest when she joined the County Government of Isiolo, partners, parents and learners to mark the International Day of the Girl Child 2026, held under the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights”.

A SEASON OF PROTECTION

The Chairperson asked chiefs, children’s officers, police, religious leaders and elders to treat the coming school holiday as a season of protection. These weeks carry the highest risk of early marriage, FGM and pregnancy for girls.

She donated sanitary kits so that no girl misses school because of her period.

INSTRUMENTS FOR WASO

During the celebrations, Waso Primary School appealed for musical instruments to nurture learners’ talents and strengthen their participation in co-curricular activities.

The Chairperson facilitated the donation of the requested instruments, and the Commission’s Isiolo Regional Office delivered them to the school, fulfilling the commitment made on the day. The handover was witnessed by Headteacher Mr Charles Githaiga and Ministry of Education Assistant Director Mr Eric Bundi.

IN GARISSA

The Commission’s Garissa Regional Office, through the County Child Protection and Gender Technical Working Group, joined stakeholders in Garissa County to mark the day.

The commemoration focused on ending child marriage, protecting girls from harmful practices and promoting their rights, education, safety and empowerment. It also highlighted the need to strengthen child protection systems, raise awareness of the challenges facing girls and deepen collaboration among stakeholders.
