With the 2027 General Election approaching, the Commission’s Kisumu Regional Office has begun preparations aimed at strengthening peaceful and inclusive electoral participation.

Stakeholders examined the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, Kenya National Action Plans and related frameworks supporting meaningful participation of Special Interest Groups in governance and electoral processes.

The discussions also considered concerns over political intolerance and election-related violence in Kisumu and Homa Bay counties, including Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.

Proposed measures include stronger hotspot monitoring, reporting and referral mechanisms, peaceful political engagement and the establishment of a Situation Room in Kisumu County to strengthen early warning and early response.

The Commission will also undertake civic education on constitutional rights, electoral laws and democratic responsibilities. The objective is clear: ensure citizens can participate safely and meaningfully before, during and after the election period.
