National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) Commissioner Dr Margaret Karungaru served as a panellist at an engagement on women’s leadership hosted by the Council of Governors in partnership with UN Women Kenya.
The engagement, titled “Catalyzing Women’s Leadership for 2027 and Beyond”, examined how to remove barriers to women’s leadership, strengthen women’s participation in political and public decision-making and accelerate the realisation of the two-thirds gender principle.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Participants called for deliberate action, stronger institutional commitment and sustained collaboration among stakeholders.
They said meeting the constitutional requirement goes beyond numbers. It requires an enabling environment in which women participate meaningfully, lead with confidence and influence the decisions that shape their lives and communities.
THE COMMISSION’S ROLE
The Commission works with stakeholders to strengthen women’s effective participation and representation in leadership, so that progress made translates into meaningful inclusion in the 2027 elections and beyond.
