Efforts to make Kenya’s transport system more inclusive gained momentum this week after the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) hosted officials from the Kenya Paraplegic Organisation (KPO) for a planning meeting ahead of a nationwide accessibility audit of railway stations.
The initiative seeks to assess how friendly Kenya’s rail transport infrastructure is to persons with disabilities (PWDs), and to identify improvements needed to make travel safer, more dignified, and inclusive.
The audit will also highlight broader social and policy issues affecting mobility and inclusion. NGEC representatives emphasized that accessibility should be built into every phase of infrastructure development — from design to daily operation
