Technology is creating new avenues for gender-based violence, and Kisumu stakeholders are examining how county systems can respond.

The Commission’s Kisumu Regional Office convened government, law enforcement, health, civil society and digital-rights actors to strengthen prevention and response to Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.

The engagement considered online harassment, cyberbullying, image-based abuse, impersonation, stalking and threats.

The source material cites national data indicating that 37.04 per cent of respondents reported experiencing technology-facilitated GBV during their lifetime, while only 13.16 per cent of survivors reported their experiences to authorities.

Participants examined the need for accessible reporting mechanisms, effective referral systems, institutional capacity and survivor-centred support.

The discussion reinforced that digital safety is increasingly an equality and human-rights issue, particularly for groups that already face discrimination and exclusion.
