Mr. Kuria serves as the Director of Programs and Research. He has a background and experience in research and metrics, social and behavioral programming and communications. Mr Kuria first joined the Commission in February 2013, a few months after the commission was established. He served as the Deputy Commission Secretary, Research and Programs. He was responsible for establishing a comprehensive functional directorate in the technical arm of the Commission. In 2014, he was appointed to serve in the Commission as the Acting Commission Secretary and Accounting Officer, a post he held till February 2018.
In March 2019, Mr Kuria joined the Commission for the second time as the Director responsible for research and programs, a position he is currently serving in. Prior to joining the Commission, Mr Kuria served as the technical lead on gender, education, youth, children and social services in the Council of Governors, Kenya. During his short stay at the Council, he implemented a robust UNWOMEN-supported gender equality program in the devolved governments.
Mr Kuria has previously served as a manager and senior technical program lead in various local and internationally recognized social development programs;
- Measurement, Learning and Evaluation Program of the Urban Reproductive Health Initiative implemented by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health Program in Kenya managed by African Population and Health Research Centre and funded by David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
- Deputy Director Research and Metrics responsible for internal monitoring and evaluations of social and health programs implemented by Population Services International, Kenya.
- Research Officer, Population Services International Kenya responsible for operational and action research, concept and product trial studies.
