NGEC in London for Global Disability Summit

The National Gender and Equality Commission participated in the Global Disability Summit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The summit which revolved around four major themes -dignity and respect for all, inclusive education, economic empowerment and technology & innovation was cohosted by the Kenya and UK governments.

Commissioner Dr. Gumato represented the Commission and held sideline meetings with the Director of MIND UK Sue Baker on issues of mental stigmatization.

The summit sought to raise global attention and focus on disability, mobilize new global and national commitments and showcase good practice, innovation and evidence from across the world. Labour and social protection Cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani attended the summit as well. World’s only Head of State with a disability President Moreno of Ecuador set the scene for the summit with a keynote address.

The Commission will follow up on commitments made by the countries across the world and ensure their implementation.
