NGEC, IRI seek partnership to support county gender mainstreaming

Plans between the National Gender and Equality Commission and the International Republican Institute-IRI are underway to undertake capacity building for women county leaders and support the establishment of a gender-focused network for national and women county officials and civil society to coordinate gender mainstreaming.

The two organizations hope to leverage on their complimentary mandates to promote gender equality and inclusion in the management and running of county governments. NGEC Chairperson Winfred Lichuma and IRI President Ambassador Mark Green Saturday held consultations in Nairobi with a view to putting the plan into action.

Later the two held an open forum attended by women leaders from various counties from as far as Turkana and Busia counties where thematic issues such as gender responsive budgeting were discussed at length.

The Chairperson said the Commission would continue to offer advise on various aspects of gender mainstreaming to ensure devolved units are able to plan appropriatelyAmbassador Mark Green applauded NGEC for its role in promoting gender mainstreaming and promised more partnerships and collaboration.
