NGEC urges adequate funding as new Commissioner is sworn in

NGEC Vice Chairperson Commissioner Simon Ndubai has called for more budgetary allocations to constitutional Commissions saying currently most of them are unable to undertake programmatic activities due to shortage of funds. “We call on the government to ensure all constitutional Commissions are adequately funded to enable them discharge their duties and services as contemplated in the Constitution. Kenyans will ultimately suffer if Commissions fail to discharge their mandate” said Ndubai.

Commissioner Ndubai made the remarks at the Supreme Court of Kenya during the swearing in of new Commissioners to the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and the National Gender and Equality Commission.

Dr. Florence Nyokabi Wachira was sworn in as Commissioner of the National Gender and Equality Commission and will now formally report to office. Commissioner Ndubai congratulated Nyokabi on her swearing in saying the Commission looks forward to her contribution in advancing the promotion of gender equality and non-discrimination of special interest groups.

Attorney General Prof. Githu Muigai who attended the swearing in ceremony congratulated the new Commissioners and pledged to support the institutions charged with ensuring fidelity to the rule of law.
