Isiolo Unites Against SGBV: Transformative Workshop Empowers Law Enforcement and Communities

Isiolo, Kenya — In a bid to combat the persistent challenge of Sexual and Gender- Based Violence (SGBV), the Isiolo Regional Office, in collaboration with the Merti Integrated Development Program (MID-P) under the Girl Generation Program, held a transformative two-day sensitization workshop in Oldonyiro Ward, Isiolo County.

The workshop, which took place last week, aimed to empower local law enforcement agencies and community leaders with critical knowledge and skills in preventing and responding to SGBV.

Participants from the Kenya police, judiciary, and local administration were engaged in comprehensive training that focused on identifying the root causes of SGBV, understanding the legal frameworks, and promoting survivor-centered approaches. The session provided law enforcement officers with practical tools for responding effectively to incidents of violence while fostering an environment of empathy and support for survivors.

This initiative marks a significant step in Isiolo County's ongoing efforts to build safer, more resilient communities.

By creating a platform for collaboration between local authorities, civil society organizations, and community members, the workshop seeks to foster a culture of awareness, accountability, and collective responsibility in addressing SGBV.

“The fight against SGBV requires not just law enforcement but a collective, community-driven effort,” said a representative from the Isiolo Regional Office. “Through awareness and collaboration, we can ensure that survivors are protected, perpetrators held accountable, and our communities are safer for all.”

The workshop reflects a broader commitment to transforming societal norms and empowering communities in Isiolo to take proactive steps in ending violence against women and girls. With the support of organizations like MID-P and the Girl Generation Program, Isiolo County is leading the charge in fostering a more equitable, violence-free society.

As these efforts continue, the hope is that the lessons learned will spark a wider movement across the region, paving the way for lasting change in the fight against SGBV.
